Power ministry revises policy to use biomass pellets in coal plants
India’s power ministry has set a revised policy to use biomass pellets in coal-burning thermal power plants, encouraging use of agricultural waste that is otherwise burnt by farmers, causing air pollution.
- The decision, announced on Friday makes it mandatory for three categories of thermal power plants to use a 5% blend of biomass pellets along with coal.
- The policy will come into force in October 2022, with a requirement to increase the proportion of biomass to 7% within two years for two categories of power plants.
India-Croatia sign agreement for academic collaboration in Traditional Medicine Systems
India and Croatia have signed an agreement for academic collaboration in traditional medicine systems, especially in the field of ayurveda, according to a statement.
- The MoU with Croatia is a significant step towards bolstering India’s ties with other countries and promoting academic research, clinical and educational activities, medical education, training, and competency building.
Parshottam Rupala launches nationwide River Ranching Programme in Uttar Pradesh; NFDB sanctions Rs.2.81 crores to ranch 97.16 lakh fingerlings
The Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Shri Parshottam Rupala, launched the River Ranching Programme at Brijghat, Garh Mukteshwar, Uttar Pradesh.
- Total 5 states(Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Tripura)have participated the National Level River Ranching program launching and a total of 8.85 lakh fingerlings were ranched. More than 1060 nos. of participation from these 5 states and have made the National Level River Ranching Program a grand success.
- “River ranching programme” is introduced as special activity under PMMSY scheme for augmenting and enhancing the fish production and productivity through expansion, intensification, diversification and productive utilization of land and water.
- NFDB sanctioned a total budget of Rs 2.81 crore to ranch 97.16 lakh fingerlings to states as a part of Action Plan 2020-21 of PMMSY.

Karuppur kalamkari paintings, Kallakurichi wood carvings get GI tags
The traditional dye-painted figurative and patterned cloth called Karuppur kalamkari paintings and the wood carvings of Kallakurichi have received geographical indication (GI) tags.
- Tamil Nadu, kalamkari paintings are done on pure cotton cloth, predominantly used in temples for umbrella covers, cylindrical hangings, chariot covers and asmanagiri (false ceiling cloth pieces), whereas Kallakurichi wood carvings are a unique form of wood carving entailng the application of ornamentation and designs, derived from traditional styles by the craftsmen.

Shipping Minister Sonowal launches ‘MyPortApp’ for digital monitoring of port operations
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal launched a port mobile application called ‘MyPortApp’ in Kolkata. The App is aimed at promoting transparency and easy access to port-related information.
- Ministry of Ports, Shipping and waterways in a Statement said, targeted towards Port users for availing various Port services, the app includes all port details digitally and monitors operations virtually.
- The app also has various information like vessel berthing, rake & indent, rake receipt, container status, tariff, bills, Port holidays, etc., and can be accessed anywhere 24×7 and reach out directly to the portal.
Indian Naval Fast Attack Craft (In Fac) T80 decommissioned after 23 years of service
Indian Naval Fast Attack Craft (IN FAC) T 80 was decommissioned at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai in an impressive yet poignant ceremony. Rear Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, AVSM, VSM, Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
- The ship rendered yeoman service to the Navy and nation for over 23 years, and was the first of the Super Dvora Mk II class, built by M/s lAI Ramta at Be’er Sheva, Israel. She was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 24th June 1998 by then Vice Admiral Madhvendra Singh, PVSM, AVSM, ADC Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.

- The book is published by Peguin Random House India.
- The book follows Kumar’s journey from a modest house in the old city of Meerut to being a probationary officer in SBI in 1980 and growing to the post of Chairman in 2017.

Abdul Qadeer Khan, father of Pakistan’s nuclear programme, passes away
A.Q. Khan, a scientist known as the father of Pakistan’s clandestine nuclear programme, passed away a brief illness. He was 85.
- The nuclear physicist faced criticism in 2004 when he was forced to accept responsibility for nuclear technology proliferation and was forced to live a life of official house arrest.
- Khan, considered as the father of Pakistan’s nuclear bomb, is revered at home as a hero. He was also called a man who built the Muslim world’s first atomic bomb.
